Jonathan Durnin

A founding Director of DC Research, Jonathan brings sixteen years of academic, policy development and consultancy experience as an economist and project manager to the business.  Jonathan has well developed economic, regeneration and culture evaluation expertise and process skills, including working with thematic and area based regeneration programmes funded through regional, national and European mechanisms.  Clients have included Government Departments, Government Offices and regional development agencies across six of the nine English regions, local authorities and local and sub regional strategic partnerships, single purpose regeneration vehicles, national agencies and organisations, charities and private sector developers.

Jonathan has recently delivered a Tourism Strategy Scoping Project for MLA Council, and estimated the economic impact of Leicester’s Cultural Quarter developments (comprising of the Curve Theatre, LCB Depot Creative Workspace Centre and the Digital Media Centre). 

Other recent projects include the development of an enterprise culture strategy for emda, and the development of an Impact Framework for Shoreditch Trust.  He is currently leading on a Socio-Economic Impact Study for The National Forest, and research to establish The Economic Value of the Independent Museum Sector for the Association of Independent Museums.  In addition Jonathan is undertaking an economic value study for the London Transport Museum, and is also involved in the Living Places Year 2 Evaluation for MLA, CABE, Arts Council, English Heritage, and Sport England.

Prior to consultancy roles, Jonathan previously held senior policy posts with Cumbria County Council (where he was involved in developing Cumbria’s response to FMD and rural recovery) and before that research posts at the Centre for Regional Economic Development in Carlisle (now part of the University of Cumbria). 

Jonathan is a Member of the Institute of Economic Development, and of the Regional Studies Association.
